Money Recovery Tech and Legal Tips: It was Saturday night. After a tiring day at the office, Gyanendra and Ashish went to a restaurant with their other friends. Laughter, jokes, photos, stories... everything was going perfectly. When the bill came, as usual, Ashish put his hand on Gyanendra's shoulder and said, "Brother, you pay today, I'll send you the money tomorrow." Gyanendra smiled and paid via UPI, thinking Ashish would pay him back the next day. But, tomorrow came... then the day after... and somehow a whole week passed.

Every time Gyanendra opened the WhatsApp chat, he would type a message reminding Ashish about the debt, then delete it. He didn't want to ruin their friendship. Ashish, on the other hand, had probably forgotten... or was pretending to forget.

This is where the problem begins, a situation almost everyone has faced at some point. But this time, what Gyanendra decided to do, if you also follow his approach, you won't spoil your relationships, and you'll get your borrowed money back. If you've ever been in Gyanendra's situation, these methods will be very useful for you.

Here, we are telling you two methods: one gentle (technology-based) and the other strict (legal).

1. Gentle Recovery: UPI Apps' Split Bill' Feature
If the matter is about food and drink bills or small expenses, you don't need to call and ask for the money yourself. Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe have a great feature called 'Split Bill'.

How does it work?

After you make the payment, the 'Split Expense' or 'Split Bill' option appears on the same screen. Select your friends there. The app will automatically divide the amount equally and send them a notification.

What's the biggest advantage?

The app, not you, will do the job of asking for the money. The app will itself send them reminders from time to time, saying, "Hey, payment is pending." This way, you won't feel embarrassed, and the other person won't feel bad either.

2. When the matter is serious: Legal Action
If the matter is significant (for example, you lent someone a large sum of money in cash or online) and they are flatly refusing to repay it, 'Split Bill' won't be effective. In this case, you will need to seek legal assistance.

Step 1: Legal Notice: Send them a notice through a lawyer. This notice will include the date the money was lent, the evidence, and a deadline for repayment. Often, people repay the money at this stage due to fear of the police or the court.

Step 2: Civil Suit: If they do not respond to the notice, you can file a case under Order 37 of the CPC (Code of Civil Procedure). They will then be required to appear in court and respond within 10 days.

Step 3: Fraud Case (Section 420): If they have deliberately cheated you, you can also file a criminal case under Section 420 (fraud) and Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code). This can even lead to imprisonment.
