Jaipur: A serious conspiracy to derail one of India’s most prestigious luxury trains was successfully prevented near Jaipur due to the sharp vigilance and timely action of the train’s loco pilot. The incident occurred late at night when the train was carrying a large number of international tourists, and it highlighted growing concerns over railway safety and organized sabotage attempts in different parts of Rajasthan.

Incident Occurred During Late-Night Journey

The luxury train was travelling from Jaipur toward Sawai Madhopur when the incident took place. The journey was proceeding normally until approximately 11:30 p.m., when the loco pilot noticed something unusual on the railway track. The location was near a railway crossing close to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in the Shivdaspura area. This stretch of track is considered sensitive due to limited visibility during night hours.

Suspicious Objects Detected on the Track

As the train approached the crossing, the loco pilot observed multiple iron angles deliberately placed across the rails. These iron pieces were not random debris; they appeared to be carefully positioned with the clear intention of causing a derailment. Railway officials later confirmed that five to six iron angles, each around five feet long, had been used in the attempt, making the situation extremely dangerous for a high-speed luxury train.

Immediate Action Prevented a Major Disaster

Reacting without hesitation, the loco pilot applied the emergency braking system. The train came to a controlled halt within a short distance, avoiding a potentially catastrophic accident. Given the weight and speed of a luxury tourist train, even a slight delay in response could have resulted in severe loss of life and extensive damage to railway property.

Train Halted for Safety Clearance

Following the emergency stop, the train remained stationary for nearly 35 minutes. During this time, railway staff carefully removed the iron angles from the track. Passenger safety was prioritized, and onboard staff ensured that tourists remained calm and informed while the situation was being handled by authorities.

Security Agencies Reached the Spot Quickly

Soon after the obstruction was discovered, teams from the Railway Protection Force, the Government Railway Police, and the local police arrived at the scene. The coordinated response demonstrated improved inter-agency communication in handling railway security threats. A detailed inspection of the track was conducted, including assistance from a dog squad to detect any additional suspicious materials.

Track Declared Safe and Operations Resumed

After a thorough inspection, officials declared the railway track safe for movement. The train was then allowed to proceed toward its destination. Authorities emphasized that no injuries were reported and that the passengers completed their journey without further disruption.

Investigation Launched Against Unknown Accused

Railway authorities registered a formal case against unidentified individuals involved in the sabotage attempt. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local sources to identify those responsible. Officials stated that this was a deliberate and planned act rather than a prank or accidental obstruction.

Enhanced Security Measures Ordered

In response to the incident, railway officials issued fresh instructions to strengthen track patrolling, especially during nighttime hours. Vulnerable and less-monitored sections of railway lines are now under increased surveillance. The focus is on preventing sabotage, vandalism, and other security threats that could endanger passengers and railway assets.

Loco Pilot Praised for Presence of Mind

Senior railway officials praised the loco pilot for his alertness and professionalism. His quick decision-making saved the lives of hundreds of passengers, most of whom were foreign tourists. Authorities noted that his actions prevented what could have been one of the most serious railway tragedies in recent years.

Pattern of Repeated Sabotage Attempts in Rajasthan

This incident is not an isolated case. In September last year, a similar derailment attempt was reported involving the Aravali Express in Rajasthan’s Sirohi district, where a pole was placed on the track. Earlier, railway officials uncovered derailment attempts in the Ajmer region as well. These repeated incidents indicate a disturbing pattern that authorities are now taking more seriously.

Rising Incidents of Stone Pelting on Trains

In addition to derailment attempts, several cases of stone pelting on trains have been reported in recent months. The Vande Bharat Express was targeted in Udaipur and Alwar, while the Intercity Khajuraho Express suffered damage to an AC coach window in Alwar district. At the same location, miscreants also attempted to derail a goods train, raising serious questions about regional railway security.

Need for Stronger Preventive Strategy

Railway experts believe that technological surveillance, community awareness, and stricter punishment for offenders are essential to curb such incidents. Continuous monitoring and rapid response mechanisms are being reviewed to ensure passenger safety and protect critical transport infrastructure.
