Rajasthan Government: The Rajasthan government has officially renamed Mohammadpura village, located in Digod tehsil of Kota district, as Mohanpura. A formal notification has been issued, confirming that the new name will now be used across all government records and administrative systems. This decision follows a long-standing demand by local residents and marks another instance in the state’s ongoing process of revising village names based on historical and social considerations.

Official Notification And Administrative Update

According to the notification released by the state administration, the village will now be identified as Mohanpura in revenue documents, educational records, land registries, and offices connected to local governance. The village falls under the jurisdiction of the Budhadit police station area, and the name change applies uniformly across all departments. Officials have stated that the process of updating records will begin once formal instructions are issued by the district collector’s office.

Demographic Background Of The Village

Mohanpura is home to more than six dozen households and is entirely inhabited by members of the Hindu community. There are no Muslim families residing in the village. Despite this demographic composition, the village had been officially recorded as Mohammadpura for several decades. Residents have often pointed out this mismatch between the village name and its population structure, which became one of the key reasons behind the demand for a change.

Historical Reason Behind The Old Name

Local residents and village representatives explained that the name Mohammadpura dates back to the era of princely states. At that time, a police outpost in-charge named Mohammad was posted in the area, and the settlement gradually came to be known by his name. Over time, this name was entered into official records and continued without revision for many years, even after administrative systems evolved.

Long-Standing Public Demand For Renaming

Mulchand Gurjar, administrator of the Madanpura Panchayat, confirmed that villagers had been requesting a name change for a long period. A formal application was submitted collectively by the residents, along with the village sarpanch, to initiate the process. The request included a signed memorandum representing the consensus of the entire village, reflecting strong public support for renaming the settlement as Mohanpura.

Role Of Central And State Authorities

The proposal gained momentum after a memorandum was submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Following his intervention, the Union Home Ministry reviewed and approved the request as per established administrative procedures. Based on this approval, the Rajasthan government issued the official notification through the state revenue department, completing the legal and procedural requirements.

Geographic And Political Significance

Mohanpura village falls under the Piplada Assembly constituency and is located approximately 46 kilometres from the Digod tehsil headquarters. Situated along the banks of the Chambal River, the village is primarily agrarian in nature. According to local revenue officials, most residents depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood, making land and revenue records especially important for the community.

Implementation Process And Local Response

Revenue department officials stated that the name change order was issued by Hari Singh Meena, Deputy Secretary of the state revenue department, formally amending the village name in government documentation. The change was initiated following correspondence from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, which confirmed procedural compliance. Digod tehsildar Pritam Kumari Meena reiterated that the initiative was entirely based on the villagers’ request.

Villagers have expressed gratitude to the authorities involved, stating that the decision reflects respect for local sentiment and identity. Officials added that once district-level instructions are received, the physical updating of signboards, records, and institutional documents will be carried out in phases.

The renaming of Mohammadpura to Mohanpura follows a recent trend in Rajasthan, where several villages have undergone similar changes. Earlier, Khedarasulpur village in the Kaithun area was renamed Khedarampur. These changes indicate a broader administrative effort to revisit historical village names and align them with contemporary cultural and social realities.
