Amitabh Bachchan is celebrated not just for his charm and versatility on screen, but also for his legendary discipline off it. The Shahenshah of Bollywood has a way of commanding attention in every frame, yet behind the camera, his professionalism leaves the entire crew in awe. Recently, his co-star Raja Bundela shared a fascinating anecdote: during a shoot, Bachchan’s spot boy forgot his continuity shoes, halting the filming for the day. True to form, Big B handled the situation overnight, ensuring the shoot stayed on track.

How Big B fixed a problem that caused the shoot to stop overnight

The anecdote was shared by actor Raja Bundela, who worked with Bachchan in the 1989 film Main Azaad Hoon, directed by Tinnu Anand. Speaking on the Dear Generation podcast, Raja looked back at his time on set with the veteran actor and recalled how impressed he was by Bachchan’s professionalism and preparation.

According to Raja, the incident took place during a shooting schedule in Goa. One morning, Big B realised that his continuity shoes, a crucial part of his costume, had accidentally been left behind in Mumbai. At the time, flights were limited and coordination was far from easy. The discovery created immediate tension on set, as the scene scheduled for the day depended heavily on visual continuity.

Raja explained that the scene involved the megastar walking along a road, noticing an apple and bending down to pick it up. Since the character had been hungry for two days, the moment was emotionally important, and visually precise. When the actor bends down, his shoes are clearly visible, making it impossible to ignore any mismatch in costume. “Continuity was essential for that shot,” Raja said.

What made the situation even more surprising, Raja noted, was that Amitabh Bachchan was usually extremely careful about such details. He revealed that during those days, the actor would personally carry his continuity items with him after every shoot instead of leaving them with the production team. Despite this habit, the shoes were mistakenly left behind when his spotboy failed to pack them.

The mood on set quickly shifted. Raja recalled that many members of the unit assumed the next day’s shoot would be cancelled altogether. Some even began celebrating prematurely, convinced there was no way the problem could be solved overnight.

But Big B had other plans.

As Raja recalled, the megastar quietly took charge of the situation. Instead of allowing the schedule to fall apart, he sent his spotboy on an overnight bus journey to Mumbai to retrieve the shoes. From there, the spotboy boarded the first available flight back to Goa early the next morning.

The following day brought a surprise no one expected. Raja said that at around 7:30 am, Amitabh Bachchan was already on set, dressed, in full makeup, shoes in place, calmly sitting and reading the newspaper. The director, producer and much of the crew were still processing what had happened, while the actor was ready to resume work as planned.

Raja described the moment as a powerful example of discipline. He added that Bachchan personally called director Tinnu Anand and asked him to begin shooting, as everything was back on track.
