Siwan: A powerful explosion rocked parts of Siwan district in Bihar on Thursday, creating panic among residents and raising serious administrative concerns, especially as the incident occurred shortly after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived in the district. The Chief Minister was on an official visit as part of his ongoing Samriddhi Yatra, also known as the Journey of Prosperity, which focuses on reviewing and inaugurating development projects across the state.

According to preliminary information shared by officials, the blast occurred in Badram village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Hussainganj police station in Siwan district. The Station House Officer confirmed that the explosion took place at approximately 11:30 am. The sound of the blast was reportedly heard across a wide radius, alarming villagers and nearby residents.

Initial Findings and Suspected Cause

Early investigation suggests that the explosion may have been caused by firecrackers. Authorities indicated that one young man, identified as Mohammad Murtaza, lost his life in the incident. The sudden nature of the blast left little time for escape, and locals rushed to the site after hearing the loud sound.

Allegations of Illegal Manufacturing Activity

Residents of Badram village have alleged that firecracker materials were being illegally manufactured in the area. According to their claims, the explosion occurred unexpectedly during the handling or storage of such materials. While officials have not yet confirmed these allegations, they have stated that the possibility of illegal manufacturing of explosive substances is being examined seriously.

The intensity of the explosion caused damage to nearby houses, with some structures reportedly developing cracks. The Chief Minister also visited the Government Medical College in Mairwa, where he inaugurated facilities in a newly constructed building.

At the main program venue, the Chief Minister inspected departmental stalls showcasing government initiatives and distributed checks to beneficiaries of various development schemes. Several senior leaders and officials were present, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Cabinet Minister Pramod Kumar, Siwan MP Vijayalakshmi Devi, and Maharajganj MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal, along with other dignitaries.
