Donald Trump appeared with heavy bruising on his left hand during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The US President has been seen with immense bruising on his hands over recent weeks, with the White House recently revealing the reason behind it.
Earlier today in Switzerland, Mr Trump addressed world leaders and officials after the official signing ceremony for the Board of Peace, with his heavily bruised hand visible to all. The dark marks on his hand have reignited fresh health fears about the 79-year-old, who is the oldest US president to take the oath of office. However, the cause of the bruising was recently revealed. In a wide-ranging interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Mr Trump blamed the heavy bruising on a high dose of aspirin he takes on the recommendation of doctors. "They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood," he said, "and I don't want thick blood pouring through my heart." The President added that while doctors have suggested a lower dose, he has continued with the higher amount for years despite admitting it causes frequent and visible bruising.
Mr Trump suffers from "chronic venous insufficiency," which can cause his ankles and hands to look discoloured and swollen.
The US President underwent ultrasounds and a comprehensive exam after he noticed mild swelling in his lower legs in July last year.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the 79-year-old's scan revealed no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.
Leavitt said the President underwent a full medical assessment, including vascular tests, after she read from a note written by his physician, Capt. Sean Barbabella.
In the letter, later released by the White House, Dr Barbabella confirmed that ultrasound scans of Trump's lower limbs revealed chronic venous insufficiency - a common and generally harmless condition in people over the age of 70.
Barbabella, said the President uses aspirin for "cardiac prevention", and that the 79-year-old takes a dose of 325 milligrams of aspirin a day.
Mr Trump revealed:"They'd rather have me take the smaller one. I take the larger one, but I've done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising."
