After months of anticipation, Border 2 finally arrived in theatres today (January 23), drawing crowds eager to see the next chapter of one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic war stories. The film marks the return of Sunny Deol to the battlefield, this time joined by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in key roles. As fans rushed in for the first day, first show, social media quickly filled up with early reactions, offering a mixed but largely enthusiastic response.

Directed by Anurag Singh, best known for Kesari and Jugjugg Jeeyo, Border 2 is a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border. While the original remains a benchmark in patriotic cinema, the new instalment attempts to scale things up with a bigger cast, louder action and a more contemporary treatment of war drama.

Netizens review Border 2

Once the film screened publicly, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their immediate impressions. One user, who rated the film two stars, felt that while patriotism and power were clearly the intent, the execution did not always hit the mark. The user noted that some battle sequences worked well, but the emotional beats felt forced at times, adding that the screenplay slowed down in parts. The overall verdict, according to the tweet, was that nostalgia did much of the heavy lifting.

On the other end of the spectrum, another viewer called Border 2 a “cinematic triumph,” awarding it a high rating. Praising the film’s intensity, the user said the narrative honoured the bravery of Indian soldiers and highlighted Sunny Deol’s commanding presence, describing his performance as a major high point.

Several reactions shared similar sentiments about the film’s patriotic tone. One tweet described Border 2 as a powerful and emotionally stirring experience that instils pride and respect for the armed forces, urging audiences to watch it in theatres. Another user termed the film loud and unapologetically nationalistic, adding that while the climax may divide opinions, it is designed for big-screen viewing, especially around Republic Day.

Yet another viewer praised the film for reviving the spirit of mass patriotic cinema, calling it an emotion-heavy battlefield experience best enjoyed in packed halls. A separate tweet highlighted the performances of Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, while also appreciating Anurag Singh’s direction.
