Guwahati, Jan 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Assam on February 14, focusing on significant infrastructure and connectivity initiatives, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a recent social media session.
Should the visit proceed as planned, the Prime Minister will likely inaugurate the long-awaited bridge linking Guwahati and North Guwahati, officially open the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati campus, and launch 100 electric buses for the state's public transport system.
Sarma mentioned, “There is a strong possibility of the Prime Minister visiting Guwahati on February 14. We have also requested him to arrive via a special aircraft utilizing the advanced landing facility on the national highway at Moran that day.”
The Chief Minister also indicated that a second visit from the Prime Minister later in February is under consideration. During this trip, Modi may lay the groundwork for the Kokrajhar–Gelephu railway line, a crucial project designed to enhance connectivity between Assam and Bhutan.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister is anticipated to initiate the construction of a railway coach manufacturing facility in Kokrajhar and the proposed express highway worth Rs 22,000 crore, which will connect Guwahati and Silchar.
While discussing the planned visits, Sarma emphasized that the state government is working closely with the central authorities to finalize the dates and logistical arrangements.
