Georgia: The Consulate General of India in Atlanta has conveyed profound grief following a tragic shooting incident in the US state of Georgia that resulted in the deaths of four adults, including one Indian national. The incident, believed to be linked to a family dispute, has sent shockwaves through the local Indian community as well as among officials monitoring the situation closely.

In an official statement shared on social media, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and confirmed that the alleged shooter has been taken into custody. Details of the Shooting Incident

The deadly shooting took place in a residential neighborhood in the Lawrenceville area of Georgia during the early hours of Friday. According to officials, local police received a shots fired call around 2:30 a.m. at a home located on Brook Ivy Court. When officers arrived at the scene, they found four adults inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims, who were of Indian origin, were declared dead at the location.

Presence of Children During the Tragedy

Investigators revealed that the incident was domestic in nature and that three young children were present inside the home when the shooting began. Displaying remarkable presence of mind, the children reportedly hid together in a closet to protect themselves. One child managed to dial emergency services and provided critical details that helped law enforcement reach the scene promptly.

Swift Police Action and Arrest

Due to the quick emergency call, officers arrived while the suspect’s vehicle was still parked in the driveway. Concerned that the shooter might still be nearby, police deployed K-9 units to secure the area. A police dog later tracked the suspect to a nearby wooded area, where he was apprehended without resistance. Authorities confirmed that the children were unharmed and were later placed in the care of a family member.

Suspect Identification and Charges

Later on Friday, the Gwinnett County Police identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, a 51-year-old resident of Atlanta. He now faces multiple serious charges, including several counts related to aggravated assault, felony murder, malice murder, and cruelty to children across different degrees.

Victims and Background of the Dispute

Police identified the victims as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, along with three other adults who were residents of the Lawrenceville area. Investigators stated that an argument reportedly began between the couple at their Atlanta home before they traveled with their 12-year-old child to the Lawrenceville residence, where the fatal shooting later occurred.
