Travellingto a new country with a different culturecan be exciting, but it can also lead to confusion as to how things are done differently. While asking questions are usually encouraged as there are 'no stupid questions', one Brit has disagreed to this statement after sharing the moment they were left floored by an American tourist asking them a question.
If you live in an area that's a popular travel destination, it's not unusual to have touristscome up to you to ask questions, whether it's about directions for a popular attraction or about the area in question you're in. But sometimes, it might not turn out the way you'd think.
Taking to Reddit's 'AskReddit UK' forum, one Brit went on to ask about the weirdest things other users had been asked bytourists while in Britain.

The Reddit user then went on to share their own experience, after having been stopped on the street by an Americanwho had something to ask.
The user recalled: "Yesterday an American stops me and goes, dead serious, 'Do you guys actually speak English here?'"
They were clearly taken aback by the question, as they continued to say: "I nearly choked on my imaginary tea like mate, you're literally in the country that invented the bloody language. I just went 'Yeah, fluently, fancy a chat?' and he looked so relieved, like he'd finally found civilisation.
"I’m beginning to suspect I must look like I’m from a nation where English is but a distant fairy tale," they added.
And it seems like this user wasn't alone in having received oddquestions from tourists, as the comment section soon filled with other users sharing their own experiences of being asked things from tourists.
"Not so much a question, but one American said to me, 'I didn’t realise you guys also have African Americans'," another user shared.
Another person said: "I have on four separate occasions been asked for directions to Edinburgh Castle. Whilst we were standing in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle."
"Some favourites from the Americans (dad was a tour guide): Do you guys have TV? Do you have electricity in your houses?" A second Reddit user commented.
They then added: "Not asked, but tourists in Edinburgh trying to walk into my mate's flat behind them so they could have a look around. Seemed to struggle with the idea that people actually live and work there and it's not all a big theme park."
Someone else shared: "My American hubby’s first visit to the UK, asked me why we had so many toilets??? Was mis-reading To Let signs."
And it's not just Americans that have these imaginative questions, as a Scottish user added: "My husband once asked a passerby for the time...while standing on Westminster bridge. The bloke just sarcastically pointed at Big Ben and tutted. Absolutely fair! And I have never let him live it down."
