In a remarkable display, the Indian U19 cricket team triumphed over New Zealand by seven wickets using the DLS method during the 24th match of the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 on Saturday. RS Ambrish earned the Player of the Match title for his outstanding performance, taking four wickets.
India Advances to Super Six Stage
This victory allowed the team, led by Ayush Mhatre, to finish their Group B matches undefeated, securing a spot in the Super Six stage of the prestigious tournament. India achieved three consecutive wins in Group B, defeating the USA by six wickets, Bangladesh by 18 runs, and New Zealand. Both Bangladesh and New Zealand also progressed to the next round.
Ambrish's Bowling Excellence
New Zealand batted first and was dismissed for a mere 135 runs in 36.2 overs, as the match was shortened to 37 overs per side due to rain. Callum Samson was the standout performer for New Zealand, scoring an unbeaten 37 runs off 48 balls, while Selwin Sanjay contributed 28 runs off 30 balls. The rest of the batting lineup struggled significantly.
For India, RS Ambrish showcased his bowling prowess, claiming four wickets in just eight overs with impressive figures of 4/29. Other notable bowlers included Henil Patel with 3/23, Khilan Patel with 1/26, Mohamed Enaan with 1/26, and Kanishk Chouhan with 1/30.
Suryavanshi and Mhatre Lead the Chase
Chasing a target of 130 runs as per the DLS method, India completed the task in just 13.3 overs. Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 43 runs off 23 balls, which included three sixes and two fours. Captain Ayush Mhatre also shone brightly, finishing with an unbeaten 53 runs off 27 balls, featuring two fours and six sixes, leading India to a convincing seven-wicket victory.
