Sheridan Smith joked that she'd been "outed" after her new family addition was revealed on Saturday Kitchen.
The actress was a guest on the BBC programme on Saturday morning (January 24), where she chatted to host Matt Tebbutt as celebrity chefs such as Poppy O' Toole whipped up delicious-looking dishes.
As they talked, it came out that Sheridan had a new dog, which she revealed she had yet to tell her mum. The star, who is mum to a five-year-old son, was chatting to Matt about her new play, Woman In Mind, when her new pet came up.
"Mum doesn't know!" she exclaimed, adding, "Oh no, you've outed me."
"Yeah, I've got a new dog, and my mum doesn't know," she added.
Matt asked the TV star if her mum would be watching her on Saturday Kitchen, and Sheridan confirmed: "Mum's watching."
"It's her birthday tomorrow," she added, waving at the camera as she confessed, "I've bought myself a dog."
Matt then asked her mum's name, and when Sheridan said it was Marilyn, he looked into the camera and said: "Happy birthday, Marilyn. Don't worry about the dog - it's lovely."
"Oh, no!" the actress giggled.
Another guest on the show then shared that they also had a dog that their mum didn't know about, and Sheridan laughed: "Why are we scared of our mums?"
Matt was then quizzed about whether he would like to get a dog himself, but he replied: "I would get a dog, but I'm away quite a lot, so I have got my cats. I love my cats."
Later in the show, Sheridan brought out her new pooch for viewers, sharing that the pup was 4 months old.
As the camera panned over to show the star cuddling the dog, Matt said playfully, "Puppy alert! Here we are. Marilyn meet Winifred."
"Mum, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Sheridan giggled.
