Patna: Police investigations into the tragic death of a NEET aspirant in Patna have taken a serious turn after forensic analysis revealed biological evidence pointing towards possible sexual assault. The development has intensified scrutiny of the case, raised questions about earlier official statements, and added pressure on investigators to ensure transparency and accountability.

Forensic Report Reveals Crucial Evidence

According to senior police officials, forensic examination of the victim’s clothing detected traces of semen, suggesting that the young woman may have been sexually assaulted before her death. The biological report, submitted by the Forensic Science Laboratory, confirmed the presence of male sperm on the undergarments allegedly worn by the student at the time of the incident. This scientific finding has reinforced concerns already raised during the post-mortem examination.

Investigators have stated that a DNA profile will now be developed from the semen samples recovered during forensic testing. This profile will be compared with the DNA of the accused currently in custody and with other suspects identified by the Special Investigation Team during the course of the investigation.

Police Statement on Evidence Handling

In an official statement, the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police clarified that the clothing items of the deceased were handed over by her family and seized strictly following legal procedures. These items were then forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed analysis. During this examination, traces of human sperm were detected, prompting further DNA profiling that could prove crucial in identifying those responsible.

Suspension of Police Officials

As the investigation progressed, disciplinary action was taken against two police officials. The victim, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jehanabad, had been staying at a girls’ hostel in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar area while preparing for medical entrance examinations. Earlier this month, she was found unconscious in her hostel room. She remained in a coma for several days and eventually passed away at a private hospital on January 11, 2026.

Her family immediately raised allegations of sexual assault and accused authorities of attempting to suppress facts. These allegations led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team to independently probe the circumstances surrounding her death.

Post-Mortem Observations and Medical Opinions

The post-mortem report noted injuries to the victim’s private parts and nail abrasions on her body, findings that raised serious concerns. While initial medical observations suggested that the death may have resulted from the consumption of a large quantity of sleeping pills and complications related to typhoid, the final post-mortem report stated that sexual violence could not be ruled out.

Despite these observations, police initially maintained that medical reports and available CCTV footage did not indicate sexual assault. A police statement issued earlier in January claimed that doctors had found no clear signs of sexual violence and attributed the death primarily to drug consumption and illness.

Medical Board Raises Concerns

A five-member medical board reviewing the case later stated that it had not been provided with all crucial documents required to reach a definitive conclusion. The head of the board explained that while some records were shared by the Special Investigation Team, they were insufficient for forming a complete medical opinion. The board is reportedly awaiting additional documents and evidence before finalizing its assessment.
