After being closed for over two days due to heavy snowfall, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been partially reopened as of Sunday. Fresh snowfall occurred on Thursday morning in parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, which hindered snow removal efforts on the highway.
A traffic police official stated, “The Jammu-Srinagar highway has been partially restored. Vehicles trapped between the Nashri and Navayug tunnels are being cleared first.”
Since the road was shut down due to heavy snow on Friday, hundreds of vehicles had been stranded on the 270-kilometer stretch. Light snowfall was also reported in Srinagar city early in the morning. However, flight operations at Srinagar International Airport were not affected by the adverse weather, with three flights having already arrived.
An official from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) mentioned, “Flight operations at Srinagar Airport are continuing as usual.” Authorities also confirmed that train services are running according to their scheduled timetable.
