On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, a total of 982 personnel from police, fire services, home guards, and civil defense will be honored with bravery and special service medals. This announcement has been officially made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which includes 125 bravery medals in total.
Distribution of Bravery Medals
The highest number of bravery medals, totaling 45, will be awarded to personnel stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, 35 medals will be given to those serving in Naxal-affected areas, while 5 medals will recognize the bravery of personnel from northeastern states. The list also includes 4 fire service members who have demonstrated courage during rescue operations.
State Police Forces and Their Honors
Among state police forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police will receive the most medals, with 33 awarded. Following them, Maharashtra Police will receive 31 medals, Uttar Pradesh will get 18, and Delhi Police will be honored with 14 bravery medals. This year, only the CRPF among central paramilitary forces will receive 12 bravery medals.
Additional Honors for Service
In addition to the bravery medals, 101 'President's Distinguished Service Medals' and 756 'Meritorious Service Medals' will also be awarded. These medals are presented to officers and personnel who have shown exceptional courage during their duties or have served the nation with unwavering dedication over an extended period.
