Rohit Sharma And Harmanpreet Kaur Honoured With Padma Shri Award 2026: The eve of the country’s 77th Republic Day was very special for the Indian sports world. On this occasion, the government announced Padma awards to many big players and people associated with sports. Team India’s senior batsman and former captain Rohit Sharma, and Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur have been awarded the Padma Shri this year.

Let us tell you that Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honor of the country. This honor is being given to Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur keeping in mind their outstanding contribution to cricket and their recent achievements.

President approves 131 Padma Awards

The Padma Awards are announced every year on 26 January and are given at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in March–April. For the year 2026, the President has approved a total of 131 Padma awards, including two pairs of cases. This list includes 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri awards. The total awardees include 19 women, 6 recipients in the Foreign/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and 16 posthumous awards.

Achievements of Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur

Rohit Sharma has now joined the select Indian players who have received the honor of Padma Shri. In the past years, his captaincy gave new heights to Indian cricket. Under the leadership of Rohit, India won the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025, which gave his leadership global recognition. He continued to shine in batting and scored 20,109 runs, 50 centuries and 111 half-centuries at the international level. After retirement from T20 and Test, he is now focusing on ODI.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who received Padma Shri for women’s cricket, has been the center of praise across the country for her success. Harmanpreet recently led India to win the ICC Women’s World Cup for the first time by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This victory took Indian women’s cricket to new heights and opened new doors for women players. Harmanpreet is seen as the “Iron Lady” of women’s cricket, which shows her strong leadership.
