The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to improve the schools in the National Capital Region. A special focus is now being placed on education in these schools, and preparations are underway to strengthen the school system. As part of this initiative, the MCD has announced the launch of MCD Shri Schools. These schools will be modeled after the central government's PM Shri School scheme and the Delhi government's CM Shri School initiative.
Regarding the 'MCD Shri Schools', it has been announced that in the first phase, two MCD Shri Schools will be opened in each MCD zone. Admission to these schools will be given specifically to children who have performed well in academics and other activities.

Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said that these new schools aim to identify and nurture the hidden talents of children so that they are fully prepared for higher education. He said that education, values, and discipline together form the strong foundation of any society. The Mayor described teachers as the true builders of the nation and emphasized their crucial role.
Identifying Children's Talent
Yogesh Verma, Chairman of the MCD Education Committee, said that special emphasis is being placed on identifying talented children studying in the corporation's schools. According to him, approximately 100 meritorious students from the 5th grade will be selected every year. Information about these children's achievements in academics, sports, and co-curricular activities will be uploaded on the MCD website so that other schools can also offer them opportunities for further education.
Improved Basic Facilities
Yogesh Verma also stated that the MCD is not only focusing on education but also on improving the basic facilities in schools. Continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the mid-day meal program, uniforms, and school infrastructure. The announcement of MCD Shri Schools was made on Republic Day. Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh shared information about this new initiative at the MCD Primary School in Ashok Vihar Phase-1.
