A 95-year-old woman was tied up and threatened during an attempted robbery by a man who offered to clean her windows, police have said. Greater Manchester Police said officers responded at around 11am on Tuesday to reports that a woman had cash demanded from her at an address on Belcroft Drive in Little Hulton.
It is believed that a man entered the property after offering to clean the woman's windows before tying her hands together. He then demanded the woman's cash and purse, police said. The man was disrupted when another woman who knew the victim arrived at the house, where she was grabbed, before the man fled.
No injuries were reported and the victim is being supported by officers.
Police said on Tuesday evening that no arrests have been made but extensive inquiries are ongoing and there will be an additional police presence in the area over the coming days.
Officers have asked the public for any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from around the area at the time - or information from anyone who saw anything suspicious.
The suspect is described as a white male and approximately in his late 60s to early 70s, wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans and dark-coloured shoes.
He had short mousy brown hair which was combed back, no facial hair, glasses, and appeared well-kempt.
Detective Inspector Paul Davies, from GMP's Salford district, said: "This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible.
"Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady's friend who confronted the man and called officers.
"As we progress this investigation, we are appealing for anyone with any information to please come forward.
"It could be something big or small - it all assists in our work."
