There has been a huge tension in the relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Pakistan, which often begs for financial assistance from the UAE, is now moving closer to Saudi Arabia. This sparked discontent in the UAE, and it has further strengthened its ties with India. Recently, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed visited India and signed the defense agreement. After this, UAE also canceled the deal made with Pakistan on Islamabad Airport.
Pakistan’s UAE visit and acceptance
After this incident, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari suddenly visited UAE. The UAE Justice Minister arrived to welcome him, which reflects the cold reception he received. Zardari will discuss trade, security and defense cooperation during the visit. Pakistan is trying to strengthen its military and security relations in the Arab world, and under the pretext of this, it can get financial assistance from the Gulf countries.
UAE’s increasing cooperation with India
The UAE has changed its strategy after Pakistan’s growing closeness with Saudi Arabia and its plan to create an Islamic NATO. Analysts believe that UAE has strengthened its relations with India in view of the dispute between Türkiye and Pakistan over Muslim Brotherhood. Now UAE is planning to buy arms from India, and is increasing strategic cooperation with India by moving away from Pakistan.
