Mumbai: The decision of Bollywood’s famous singer Arijit Singh to quit playback singing has stunned the entire industry. Arijit, who has given solace to crores of hearts with his voice from ‘Tum Hi Ho’ to ‘Kesariya’, now wants to weave a new tune in his life. But do you know that the ‘peace’ that Arijit is looking for after rejecting crores of earnings and global stardom, he finds it in his family. The love story of Arijit Singh, who is far away from the limelight, is no less than a film story.

Arijit Singh’s wife’s name is Koel Roy. Koyal and Arijit are childhood friends and both have studied in the same school. Koel came into Arijit’s life when the singer was going through a difficult phase after the breakup of his first marriage. At that time Koyal’s first marriage had also ended. Both supported each other. In the year 2014, when Arijit’s career was on the seventh sky, instead of any big hotel, he very simply took seven rounds with the cuckoo in the Tarapith temple of West Bengal. Only close family members attended this wedding.

a complete family of three children
Arijit and Koyal have three children in their family, whom they consider as their world. Out of these three children, two are of Arijit and Koyal, while Koyal has a daughter from her first marriage. Arijit not only adopted the cuckoo but also gave full fatherly love to his daughter. He is raising her like his own daughter.

    connection with village soil
Amidst the news of retirement, Arijit’s simplicity is again in the news. While Bollywood stars roam around in luxury cars, Arijit is still seen riding a scooter on the streets of his village Jiaganj (Murshidabad) and buying goods from the market with a bag. Actually his father Kakkar Singh was a Punjabi Sikh. His family came to India from Lahore at the time of partition of the country. Whereas, his mother Aditi Singh was from a Bengali Hindu family. Music was in Arijit’s blood right from the beginning. Everyone in his house was connected to tunes. His maternal grandmother and aunt were experts in Indian classical music.

Arijit Singh’s mother not only sang but also played the tabla brilliantly. His maternal uncle was also an excellent tabla player. Arijit’s talent started appearing in his childhood itself. When the children did not learn to speak properly, at the age of 3 years, he started learning music from the Hazari brothers (Rajendra Prasad, Dhirendra Prasad and Birendra Prasad Hazari). His dedication was so strong that at the age of just 9 he got a government scholarship for Indian classical music. He also listened to Western greats like Mozart, Beethoven and idolized Ustad Rashid Khan, Zakir Hussain and Kishore Kumar. Arijit was always a good student, but his heart was always more towards music than books.

Now will work as a ‘small artist’
Arijit has also written in his retirement post that he will now work on himself as a ‘small artist’. Sources close to him believe that Arijit now wants to give his children a simple and better upbringing away from the glamor of Mumbai, perhaps that is why he has said goodbye to this fast-paced world of films.
