Ajit Singh / Rajesh Tiwari (Bureau Report)
Chopan/Sonbhadra-
In Adarsh Nagar Panchayat Chopan, road, drain and concrete construction work is being done without installing information boards despite government orders. This serious irregularity has itself been exposed from the report presented by the Nagar Panchayat after the complaint made on the Jansunwai portal.
A complaint was lodged on the Jansunwai portal regarding various construction works going on in Nagar Panchayat Chopan. As part of the complaint, in the report submitted by the Nagar Panchayat on January 24, 2026, it has been clearly admitted that no construction information board was installed at any construction site as per the government order.
According to the instructions issued by the Urban Development Department, Uttar Pradesh, it is mandatory to install an information board at every construction site, in which the name of the work, approved cost, financial year, start and completion date and name of the contractor should be mentioned. Despite this, this requirement was completely ignored in the Nagar Panchayat area.
It has only been mentioned in the report that instructions have been given to the concerned contractors to install information boards, but till now no list or proof has been presented as to which information boards have been installed at which work sites. Also, there is no mention of any action being taken against the officers or executing agencies responsible for not installing information boards.
Due to the absence of information boards, transparency regarding the cost and quality of construction works is being lost and the public is being deprived of necessary information. Due to this, the possibility of irregularities and corruption in work cannot be ruled out.
The complainant has demanded that on-site investigation of all the construction works being carried out in Nagar Panchayat Chopan should be conducted, action should be taken against the officers and contractors responsible for not installing information boards and installation of information boards should be made mandatory at every construction site in future.
