The league phase of the Champions League is over and done with after a chaotic final night of fixtures. Every team in the competition has played their initial eight matches to determine their finishing positions in the league table. The top eight will automatically go through to the round of 16, while those between ninth and 24th will have to go through the play-offs.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United were England's representatives and the five clubs experienced mixed fortunes. Arsenal sailed through with a perfect record, winning all of their matches to finish at the very top of the table. They wrapped up their campaign with a narrow victory over Kairat at the Emirates Stadium, although their progression was already guaranteed.
Tottenham will join their north London rivals in the knockout stages, with Thomas Frank's side beating Eintracht Frankfurt courtesy of goals from Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke.
Liverpool sailed through with a thumping victory over Qarabag, scoring six goals on a near-perfect night at Anfield that was only marred by Jeremie Frimpong being forced off with an injury.
Chelsea also secured a top-eight finish with a narrow win over Napoli as Joao Pedro scored a late winner to help the Blues scrape into the round of 16.
Manchester City, meanwhile, booked their place with a one-sided victory over Galatasaray in a game that was briefly stopped by protesters storming the pitch.
However, it was a different story for Newcastle, who will head into the play-offs after failing to beat reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain. They could only draw at the Parc des Princes with Joe Willock scoring on the stroke of half-time.
Elsewhere, Benfica scraped into the final play-off spot thanks to a sensational late header from goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, which saw them beat Real Madrid by two goals and leapfrog Marseille in the overall standings.
