Washington Sundar Starts Batting At BCCI CoE: T20 World Cup will start from 7th February. Now only less than 10 days are left for the start of the World Cup. In such a situation, Indian team’s all-rounder player Washington Sundar has started practicing. Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the five-match T20 series against New Zealand due to injury.

Washington Sundar is part of India’s T20 World Cup squad. Sundar was injured while bowling in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on January 11. After which there remains uncertainty regarding his participation in the World Cup. According to a Times of India report on January 28, Sundar has resumed batting in the nets at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE). According to reports, the 26-year-old Sundar batted for about 30 minutes but was still feeling pain around the ribs.

Sunder will become fit before 7th February

Sundar’s chances of being fit for the first match of T20 World Cup 2026 against America in Mumbai on February 7 are said to be low. Despite this, the team management has decided to wait for his fitness instead of replacing him. According to sources, captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir want to have an off-spinner in the team for matches against left-handed batsmen. For this reason, Ravi Bishnoi has been included as Sundar’s replacement in the New Zealand series. Bishnoi last played for India on 2 February 2025.

The board will soon take a decision regarding Sundar

TOI quoted a source as saying, ‘There are still more than 15 days left for India’s match against Pakistan in the World Cup. Washington Sundar is still part of the team and is involved in the plans. The decision will be taken only when there is no possibility of their coming back. He was selected for matches against left-handed batsmen, and hence Ravi Bishnoi has been tried. At present the options for off-spinners and bowling all-rounders are limited.”
