US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor announced on Monday that India will soon join the Pax Silica alliance, a US-led strategic initiative aimed at building a secure, resilient, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain.

“I am pleased to announce that India will be invited to join this group of nations as a full member next month,” he said during a ceremony attended by US embassy employees in New Delhi.

Gor also praised the strong relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, expressing confidence that the two leaders would soon resolve any differences.

“I have traveled all over the world with President Trump, and I can attest that his friendship with Prime Minister Modi is real,” he added.

What is Pax Silica?

Pax Silica is a strategic initiative designed to build a secure, prosperous, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain, which spans from critical minerals and energy inputs to advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI infrastructure, and logistics.

The term “Pax” comes from the Latin word for “peace,” signifying stability and long-term prosperity, while “Silica” refers to the compound refined into silicon, a key component in the computer chips that power artificial intelligence.

According to the US Department of State website, the initiative’s goals are to reduce coercive dependencies, safeguard materials essential for artificial intelligence, and ensure that participating nations can develop and deploy transformative technologies at scale.

Countries currently involved in Pax Silica include Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Netherlands, the UK, Israel, the UAE, and Australia. Additionally, Taiwan, the European Union, Canada, and the OECD contribute as guests.
