New Delhi: Volkswagen has revealed full details of the India-spec Tayron R-Line, which will become the brand’s most expensive and largest SUV in the country. This new 7-seater SUV will sit above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen’s Indian line-up. It also marks Volkswagen’s return to the premium three-row SUV segment after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued in 2021.
Unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which is brought to India as a completely built unit (CBU), the Tayron R-Line will be locally assembled. It will arrive as completely knocked down (CKD) units, which should help keep pricing more competitive.

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line uses the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the Tiguan R-Line. This engine produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Volkswagen claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 7.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 224 kph.

The Tayron R-Line gets a sportier design compared to the Tiguan R-Line. It features aggressive front and rear bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels and R-Line badges. While both SUVs are based on Volkswagen’s MQB EVO platform, the Tayron is larger and has a longer wheelbase to make room for the third row of seats.
The lighting design is also different. The headlamps and tail lamps have a new layout compared to the Tiguan. With the third row folded down, the Tayron R-Line offers up to 850 litres of boot space.

Inside, the Tayron R-Line has a slightly different dashboard design compared to the Tiguan R-Line. A silver trim runs behind the touchscreen across the dashboard, along with an illuminated R logo. The SUV continues with a three-spoke steering wheel and offers 30-colour customisable ambient lighting.

Feature highlights include a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The front seats are electrically adjustable with memory, massage and ventilation functions. Other features include an augmented reality head-up display, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and three-zone climate control.
The safety package includes nine airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start and hill-descent control, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. The Tayron R-Line received a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests in 2025.
Tayron R-Line: Price and availabilityThe SUV is expected to launch in India by March 2026. Prices are likely to fall between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Its main rivals will be the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster.
