BH Series Number Plate: Re-registering a vehicle when moving from one state to another in India has always been a headache. But the BH (Bharat) series number plate has eliminated this hassle. This special facility, launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aims to provide relief to those whose jobs are transferable, meaning they are frequently transferred. The biggest advantage of this series is that you don't need to re-register your vehicle when you move to a new state. In this article, we will tell you who is eligible for a BH series number plate, how to get one, its benefits, and how to register for it.
What is a BH Series Number Plate?
The BH series number plate is only available for new private vehicles and is not available for commercial vehicles. It looks similar to a normal number plate, the only difference being that its number starts with BH instead of a state's RTO code. BH stands for Bharat (India). This number plate contains information about the vehicle's registration year, registration number, and vehicle category.
Advantages of BH Series Number Plates
The biggest advantage of the BH series number plate is that it is valid throughout India, and there is no need to re-register the vehicle when moving from one state to another.
Another advantage is that when a new vehicle is registered with this series, road tax is initially paid for only two years. After that, the road tax needs to be renewed every two years. In contrast, vehicles with normal number plates require a one-time payment of 15 years of road tax upfront.
Additionally, the road tax for BH series vehicles is calculated based on the vehicle's price after deducting GST.
Who is eligible for a BH Series Number Plate?
The BH series number plate can be used by people in the following sectors:
State and Central Government employees
Defense personnel
Administrative service employees
Bank employees
Private sector employees whose offices are located in at least 4 states
How to register for a BH Series?
Registering for a BH series is very easy. To do this, you can log in to the VAHAN portal yourself or contact an authorized automobile dealer.
