Man Utd transfer news: Shock Patrick Dorgu replacement as £40m fee is set
Daily mirror | January 30, 2026 5:39 AM CST

Manchester United are in a good place in the Premier League after beating Manchester City and Arsenal. Under Michael Carrick, the Red Devils are gunning for a Champions League finish this season.

A top four finish - or top five if England receive an extra spot -will significantly strengthen United's transfer plans in the summer. Despite having no European football to offer, the club splashed over £200million last summer with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens all arriving.

Right now, a new midfielder is the number one priority, with Elliot Anderson believed to be their top target. However, now that Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system has been scrapped, the scope for a new left winger to move to Old Trafford is wider than ever.

Surprise winger eyed

Yesterday, we brought you news that United could move for AC Milan's Rafael Leao, with the Italian side open to letting him go. The Daily Mail also claims Chelsea's Tyrique George has emerged as a possible wide attacking option in the summer.

The 19-year-old has been in and among the first team at Stamford Bridge for two seasons now. Last season, he played eight times in the Premier League for Enzo Maresca's men, scoring one goal and assisting another, but his minutes have been limited this campaign following the arrivals of Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho.

Carrick has used Patrick Dorgu at left wing to great success in his first two games, but the former Lecce star is facing a period out on the sidelines. George is reportedly free to leave Chelsea and could cost around £22m, a similar fee to the one agreed with Fulham last summer.

Martinez interest revived

Before Lammens' signing, United spent the whole summer flirting with Emiliano Martinez. Amorim was understood to be keen to bring the Aston Villa goalkeeper to the club, before the decision was made to sign Lammens.

Now, CaughtOffside is reassessing its goalkeeping department, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir expected to leave permanently. Martinez is a name that has returned to the mix, and Villa would be open to selling him for around £40 million.

The Argentina international's contract at Villa expires in 2029, meaning Unai Emery's men are in a great position to negotiate.
