Does money really get stuck after wrong UPI transfer?
In most cases the answer is yes, it is difficult to get the money back. The reason for this is the design of the UPI system. UPI is designed in such a way that the money immediately comes out of the sender’s account and reaches the other person’s bank account. There is neither any cooling period nor the option of auto reversal. As soon as the transaction is successful, the money is legally considered to be the receiver’s. The rule is very clear, it is the responsibility of the sender to check the correct details before sending the money. If a mistake is made, the money can be returned only if the other person himself consents. If by mistake the money has gone to the wrong account, then first of all do not panic. Immediately go to the same UPI app through which you made the payment. There you will get the option of Dispute, Wrong Transfer or Raise a Complaint.
As soon as the complaint is filed, your bank contacts the receiver’s bank. The receiver is told that money has been credited to his account in error and is asked whether he is willing to return the amount.
What if the receiver refuses?
If the other person agrees to return the money, the amount can be returned within a few days. But if he refuses, then even the bank cannot help you much. In such a situation, there is definitely a way to complain to the police, but even there there is no sure guarantee of getting the money.
