The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has raised the alarm over a popular food item, citing concerns that it may pose a 'possible health risk' to certain people. Shoppers impacted by this alert have been told not to eat these products and instead return them to stores for a full refund.

The agency's warning regards specific batchesof THIS™ Isn’t Chicken Deli Pieces because they contain soya and wheat (gluten), which are not 'declared on the label'. These meat-substitute pieces are sold at various supermarkets, including Waitroseand Sainsbury's.

In an alert published on January 28, the FSA said: "This product contains undeclared soya and wheat (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease."

"Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

The product recall concerns 120g packs with 10 different use-by dates, available for purchase in England, Wales and Scotland. According to the FSA's website, this includes:

  • January 29, 2026
  • January 30, 2026

  • February 2, 2026
  • February 3, 2026

  • February 5, 2026
  • February 6, 2026
  • February 12, 2026
  • February 13, 2026
  • Customers with allergies or intolerances to soya, wheat, or gluten, or those with coeliac disease, should avoid consuming these products if they have purchased them. Instead, you can return them to the store where you purchased them for a full refund - even without a receipt.

A notice from THIS™ also adds: "We have initiated a precautionary recall of all of our THIS™ Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces due to a mislabelling issue. During production, a batch of THIS™ Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces was incorrectly packed with base labels intended for our THIS™ Isn't Cocktail Sausages.

"THIS™ Isn't Chicken Deli pieces contain WHEAT (GLUTEN) and SOYA which are not present in the cocktail sausages and therefore, not declared on the label.

"Please check the website for the correct ingredient list for THIS™ Isn't Chicken Deli Pieces. The safety of our customers is always our top priority."
