Sri Lanka on Venue Controversy: Before the T20 World Cup 2026, the dispute between Bangladesh Cricket Board and ICC was a topic of much discussion. There was a dilemma between them regarding the venue for about three weeks. Bangladesh demanded to shift its World Cup matches out of India. They were scheduled to have 4 group stage matches in India. Bangladesh had demanded to hold its matches in Sri Lanka citing security as the reason. This controversy started after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from IPL. Now Bangladesh is not a part of the T20 World Cup.

ICC rejected Bangladesh’s demand and asked them to take a final decision within 24 hours. Bangladesh stuck to their word and due to this they were ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026. It was told in many reports that Pakistan may also boycott the tournament to support Bangladesh, or may refuse to play against India.

Amidst the controversies, Sri Lanka remained completely silent, even though it is jointly hosting the T20 World Cup with India. Now finally Bangladesh Cricket Secretary Bandula Dissanayake spoke to AFP on this controversy. He said, ‘We are not saying anything in the dispute between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, because all the countries have good relations with us.’ Meanwhile, Dissanayake said that he is ready to host matches of different teams in his country in future too.

Who will play in place of Bangladesh in T20 World Cup?

After excluding Bangladesh from the 2026 T20 World Cup, ICC also immediately announced their replacement. Let us tell you that the Scotland team is now going to be a part of this big tournament. He was successful in qualifying for the T20 World Cup but was higher in the rankings. For this reason, he got entry in the big tournament instead of Bangladesh.
