Incident Reported After Family Gathering

According to initial police findings, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening after the family returned home from a visit to relatives in Sitapur. Tannu was at home with her husband Rahul Srivastava, her sister Anjali, and her young son. Family members told police that the group had been talking casually in one room when a comment made during the conversation appeared to upset Tannu, prompting her to leave the room and isolate herself.

Alleged Remark and Emotional Impact

Investigators say Rahul allegedly referred to his wife using a derogatory term during what he described as light-hearted teasing. While relatives stated that similar remarks had been made jokingly in the past, they claimed this particular comment deeply affected Tannu. Family members told officers that she was emotionally sensitive and had been struggling with self-image concerns, which may have intensified the impact of the remark.

Background and Personal Aspirations

Tannu’s relatives described her as someone who had strong ambitions in the field of modelling and was particularly conscious about her appearance and career prospects. According to her sister Anjali, Tannu’s passion for modelling made her more vulnerable to comments related to her looks. The family believes the remark triggered acute emotional distress, leading to severe mental trauma shortly before her death.

Discovery Inside the House

Rahul Srivastava told police that he left the house shortly after the conversation to bring food. Upon returning, he asked Anjali to check on Tannu. When repeated calls received no response, Anjali noticed the room was locked from the inside. Looking through a window, she reportedly saw Tannu hanging with the help of a cloth. Family members immediately broke open the door and attempted to rescue her.

Hospital and Police Response

Tannu was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police reached the scene shortly after receiving information and secured the area. The body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family for last rites.

Ongoing Investigation by Authorities

The case is currently being investigated by the Indira Nagar Police. Officers said preliminary evidence suggests possible mental harassment within the household. Rahul Srivastava is being questioned as part of the inquiry, and police stated that further action would depend on post-mortem findings and witness statements.

Broader Concerns and Legal Review

Police officials emphasized that all aspects of the case are being examined, including domestic dynamics and potential psychological abuse. They noted that emotional harassment can have serious consequences and said the investigation aims to establish whether any criminal liability is involved. Authorities have assured that the matter will be handled in accordance with the law and that conclusions will be drawn only after a thorough review of all evidence.
