Delhi Police has arrested another fake police officer. The arrested accused was calling himself an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The Crime Branch team of Delhi Police has arrested this declared fugitive criminal. He used to cheat by pretending to be a police officer.
Delhi Police arrested the accused Vimal Bhatt alias Sonu, who posed as a fake police officer, from Patparganj Industrial Area. According to the police, the accused person used to cheat people by showing fake ID card of Intelligence Bureau. He is also accused of not only having fake POLICE stickers on his car but also roaming around with sirens and loudhailers.
Was declared a fugitive in August
The fake officer was declared a fugitive by the court last year on August 4, 2025. The accused has been facing serious charges of cheating, forgery and possessing fake documents. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 419, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Accused Vimal was involved in many criminal activities not only in Delhi but also in many other states.
Engineer who became fake IPS arrested
Earlier recently, Phulbagh police in Bhiwadi of Khairthal district of Rajasthan had arrested a software engineer for coming to the police station posing as a fake IPS officer. SHO of Phulbagh said that the accused Saurabh Kumar (34) reached the police station at night in a Scorpio, on which ‘Police’ was written.
During his arrival, he told the security personnel present that he was an IPS officer. And he is posted in SPG (Special Protection Group) at the rank of AIG. He told the staff that he was on a special mission and a hotel room should be arranged immediately for his night stay. The accused is a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh and currently lives in Delhi. However, when he was questioned due to suspicion, the ID card he had was found to be fake.
Last month in December also, Maharashtra Police had arrested a fake police officer Nilesh Kashiram Rathore from Mumbai. He was arrested in Mumbai when he was roaming around posing as an IPS officer of Delhi. He was wanted in several cases to fraud. He used to commit fraud along with two other associates.
