According to SwampJin allegedly crashed a vehicle into a traffic sign and the wall of a building in Keqiao District, Shaoxing, in China’s Zhejiang Province on March 16, 2025. Local media reports said her assistant Xu Changqing sustained minor injuries. Traffic police initially ruled that Xu bore full responsibility for the accident.

However, an insurance company later reviewed surveillance footage and concluded that Jin had been driving at the time, prompting it to file a lawsuit alleging insurance fraud. Jin reportedly paid 105,000 yuan (US$15,100) to have the case withdrawn.

Authorities have not released an official conclusion on the incident. Jin and her studio have yet to respond to the allegations, while her parents have declined to comment.

The case re-entered public discussion on Friday, putting the actress back in the spotlight.

According to Sin Chew Dailyif Jin is found to have violated the law, she could face detention and the revocation of her driver’s license. Xu, who allegedly took responsibility on her behalf, could also face prosecution and possible prison time.

Although no serious injuries were reported, some netizens have questioned why someone would risk taking the blame for another person, speculating that Jin may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, claims that have not been substantiated by authorities.

As Jin remains silent, brands associated with her appear to be distancing themselves. Cosmetics brand Clarins said it is verifying the situation, while luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton and other brands are believed to have removed promotional content. Four film and television projects involving Jin may also be affected.

Jin, 36, has a background in professional dance. She was enrolled at the Affiliated Dance School of the Shanghai Theater Academy and later graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy in 2007, majoring in Chinese folk dance.

She made her acting debut in 2011 with a minor role in the wuxia drama “Peacock Feather” and later gained recognition for performances in “Wu Xin: The Monster Killer,” “Legend of the Nine Tails Fox,” “The Imperial Doctress,” “Chinese Paladin 5” and “Always on the Move.”
