A British jockey took a heavy fall after his horse collided with another at full speed in the closing stages of a race.
David Egan was aboard Sir Guinness when the thoroughbred drifted into the centre of the Gulfstream Park track while under a drive on Thursday. At the same time, Irad Ortiz Jr was steering his mount The Town around the runners in front of him in the 1 1/16m maiden event.
The two horses, who were both wearing headgear, made contact and Egan was sent flying out of the saddle.
Footage of the race shows Ortiz Jr, who went on to take second place, looking behind him as his weighing room colleague lands heavily on the turf.

In a rough race, the winner Nickel C, partnered by Tyler Gaffalione, squeezed through on the home turn, which caused the two horses next to him to become unbalanced and move out, which forced several others in behind to go wider than ideal.
The Town was starting to finish strongly when he was briefly knocked off his stride by the incident, which was looked into by the stewards.
Mike Welsch from the Daily Racing Form said on X: "Nickel C up the rail to victory in the opener but did appear to bump with tiring pace setter Gus Swayze when taking the lead. Jockey David Egan was unseated when his horse Sir Guinness was bumped near mid-stretch but both horse and rider are okay. The inquiry sign is lit."
He added a short time later: "Inquiry sign is down, opener now official, stewards take no action. Nickel C now the official winner at what seemed to be a generous 5-1. Tyler Gaffalione aboard for trainer David Fawkes."
Egan, winner of the $225,000 William L. McKnight on Saturday at the course riding Layabout, was able to continue and take his next rides on the card.
The stewards update read: "Inquiry involving #11 Sir Guinness unseating his rider at the 3/16 pole and #8 Nickel K and #4 Gus Swayze entering the stretch. After reviewing the video the stewards concluded there was insufficient reason for disqualification."
The result and post-race enquiry divided racing fans, with one writing on X: "They came into each other nobody is at fault imo."
A second person posted: "Hope he's okay. Should of been a DQ!"
And a third social media user said: "The right decision, for a change. The 11 was making a sharp left while the 7 was making a sharp right and they unfortunately met."
Egan, Britain's champion apprentice of 2017, is the number one jockey for Amo Racing and he has been in action at Gulfstream's Championship Meet the past couple of seasons.
Current standings show he has had 23 winners there this winter from 134 rides, with earnings of $952,083 putting him sixth in the standings led by Ortiz Jr.
