News India Live, Digital Desk: At the beginning of the last year of his tenure, United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed his views very boldly before the world. While directly attacking US President Donald Trump and China’s dominance, Guterres has made it clear that the world is no longer going to dance to the tune of one or two powers. Supporting ‘Multipolarity’, Guterres described the historic trade deal between India and the European Union (EU) as an excellent example for global stability. Guterres lashed out at Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’, reminded of the existence of UN. Recently, Guterres took a strong stand on the formation of ‘Board of Peace’ by US President Donald Trump, which was being described as an alternative to the United Nations. Giving a direct message to Trump, he said that the basic responsibility of international peace and security rests only with the United Nations and its Security Council. Guterres expressed concern over the ongoing tussle between global powers and said, “Dividing the world into two camps (one Washington and the other Beijing) will not bring peace. Global problems are not going to be solved by the dictates of any one power.” He stressed that if we want development and equality, we have to adopt a multipolar system where the voice of every country is valued. Praising India’s trade diplomacy, called it a ray of hope for the world. During the speech, the UN Chief made special mention of the recent trade agreement between India and the European Union (India-EU). He said that such agreements show that different parts of the world are becoming stronger through mutual cooperation. Guterres described this as a ‘positive hope’ and said that such alliances can save the world from becoming bi-polar. “International law is being crushed, criminals are fearless.” Guterres, who is entering the 10th year of his tenure, expressed sadness over the global situation and said that today international law is being flouted. He said in strong words: “Today, those who started wars no longer fear punishment. Cooperation is decreasing and distrust is increasing. But despite so many obstacles, the United Nations will not give up to establish peace.” UN Chief at the turn of farewell: What will be the future? Let us tell you that at the end of this year the Security Council will elect Guterres’ successor. This tenure of Guterres has been under the shadow of wars and conflicts, but his latest statement has made it clear that by stepping down from his post, he wants to warn the world about the dangers of ‘monopoly rule’.
