New Delhi: South Carolina’s former Governor, Nikki Haley’s son, Nalin Haley has once again triggered controversy after referring to the Indian government as “cheap”. The son of the ex-Republican leader claimed that India is not a good ally to America.

Sharing a hard hitting post on social media, Nalin asserted, “India has not been a good “ally” to America. They send cheap labor to the US, buy cheap oil from Iran, and cheap weapons from Russia because they have a cheap government. HE added, “And it’s not just India. The United States needs to reevaluate their relationship with a lot of “allies.” The contentious comments come at a times when the two nations are looking to finalise a trade deal which had been under discussion for several months.

Is this an attempt to undermine Ramaswamy?

Nalin’s remarks is possibly response to politician Vivek Ramaswamy. In a video clip from 2023, Vivek spoke about decoupling of the US from China and improving relations with India. He also clarified that that his remarks did not have any connection to his Indian origin.
In the past few days, the video once again gained attention as a section of the MAGA were attempting to undermine Ramaswamy’s Ohio governor bid.

Although Nalin does not hold any formal political position in the Republican party and has projected himself as a MAGA spokesperson. During the previous elections, he campaigned for his mother and rose to prominence for his controversial remarks.

Nalin’s past controversies

Nalin’s remarks has made headlines in the past as well. He has voice his disapproval for both illegal and legal immigration. The republic leader’s son also expressed his concerns of foreign students admission and cautioned the authorities of many of them could be “spies.”
