India Post has opened the registration process for Gramin Dak Sevak recruitment for the 2026 cycle, inviting online applications for 28,740 posts across postal circles nationwide. Eligible candidates can apply for engagement as Branch Post Master, Assistant Branch Post Master and Gramin Dak Sevak through the GDS Online Engagement Portal.

According to the notification, the recruitment process is being conducted entirely online and includes details on eligibility conditions, application timelines, fee requirements and the selection procedure. Applications must be submitted within the prescribed schedule on indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.

As per the notification, the application process begins on January 31, 2026, and will close on February 14, 2026. Candidates can pay the application fee until February 16, 2026, up to 5 pm. The application correction window will be available on February 18 and February 19, 2026. The first merit list is scheduled to be released on February 28, 2026.

Application process

Candidates are required to visit indiapostgdsonline.gov.in to access the GDS Online Engagement Portal. The process involves completing online registration with personal and educational details, paying the application fee through the online mode, filling out the application form, uploading the required scanned documents and submitting the form. Applicants are advised to download and retain a copy of the submitted application for future reference. Candidates may experience difficulty accessing the website during peak hours due to heavy traffic on the portal.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age and should have passed Class 10 from a recognised board. The notification specifies that candidates must have studied Mathematics, English and the local language up to Class 10. Basic computer knowledge, cycling skills and adequate means of livelihood are mandatory. Selection will be based on a merit list prepared using Class 10 marks, with no written examination.

Application fee and pay scale

The registration fee for the recruitment process is Rs 100, which must be paid before submitting the online application. The pay scale for Gramin Dak Sevak and Assistant Branch Post Master posts ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 24,470 per month, while Branch Post Master posts carry a monthly salary between Rs 12,000 and Rs 29,380.
