Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has urged the government to consider a nationwide ban on social media use for children below the age of 16, calling it “the need of the hour.”
In a post on social media X, Sood expressed concern over children spending excessive time on their devices, even while eating, and warned of the long-term impact of unchecked screen exposure.
“Children scrolling while eating, parents staying unaware, this can’t be our future,” Sood wrote, emphasising the growing digital disconnect within families. He pointed to Andhra Pradesh’s move to introduce restrictions and suggested that Goa could follow suit, calling for stronger nationwide action.
Sood also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issue at the national level. “Hoping Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji makes this a national movement,” he added.
The actor’s remarks have sparked fresh discussion around children’s online safety, parental awareness, and the need for stricter regulation of social media access for minors in India.
