Court reprimanded Abhinav Kashyap

Bollywood actor Salman Khan had filed a defamation case against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and two others. Abhinav had recently said objectionable and derogatory things about Salman and his family in an interview. On Friday, a Mumbai court issued an interim order against Abhinav, barring him from making any defamatory or harmful statement against Salman and his family. Salman has demanded a permanent ban and compensation of ₹9 crore. This case is based on 26 video interviews and podcasts of Abhinav between September and December 2025. It is alleged that Abhinav has given false statements against Salman’s professional integrity, personal character and family members.

What did Abhinav Kashyap say

Abhinav had described the Khan family as convicted criminals and part of the ‘Jihadi ecosystem’. He also used wrong language about Salman’s age, looks and personal life. Objectionable things were also said against Salman’s father Salim Khan and brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan. The court has considered Abhinav’s statements as defamatory, insulting and full of abuses. The court said that these statements tarnish Salman’s image in the eyes of the public.

The court clearly said that ‘no one can nor should make any derogatory statement against anyone’s family.’ Regarding freedom of expression, the court said that ‘Freedom of expression does not mean that a person can use foul or threatening language against anyone.’ It is important to mention that Salman Khan will soon be seen in the film Battle of Galwan.
