Corrie's Ken Barlow actor William Roache "has no intention of retiring".
Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been airing for decades, and many characters who are adored by ITV viewers have been in the programmes for years. Some, in my opinion, deserve to stay in the soaps for many more years to come. However, here are seven characters I think need to be killed off, as they are just not bringing anything exciting to the serial dramas.
William Roache has portrayed Ken Barlow for more than 65 years, and it recognised as the world's longest-serving soap star. Ken's had some cracking storylines over the decades, but it feels time for viewers to say goodbye to the patriarch of the cobbles now that the actor is 93. Surely, he deserves some rest and time away from work.
6. Jai Sharma
Chris Bisson has played Jai Sharma for more than 16 years, appearing in over 1,600 episodes. However, his character hasn't been part of any particularly interesting storylines recently, and the best option might be to kill him off to add a little drama to the programme.
5. Dawn Taylor
Dawn initially proved to be a really interesting character with a complicated backstory involving drugs and prostitution. It was exciting when she married Billy Fletcher in recent years, but her character just seems a little pointless following the breakdown of their marriage.
4. Tracy Barlow
Tracy Barlow's had a presence on Coronation Street for 50 years, but the character has been played by various actors over the decades. Kate Ford has played the character since 2002, but she hasn't been part of any major storylines for some time. Perhaps it's about time she was killed off.
3. Sally Webster
Sally Dynevor has played her Corrie character Sally Metcalfe for an incredible 40 years. Within that time, she's married multiple men, been a councillor, been framed for money laundering and been diagnosed with breast cancer. She's had a good run, but maybe room for a new character on the cobbles should be made.
2. Summer Spellman
It's always doom and gloom when Summer is on screen, and the character has been in some very dark and intense storylines over the years. Viewers have often complained about the character's erratic behaviour and find it difficult to warm to her.
1. Jacob Gallagher
Now Joe Warren-Plant, who portrays Jabob Gallagher, has been in a major storyline in Emmerdale as he is hoping to raise a child with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), which is being carried by her grandmother Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). However, he doesn't really need to add drama to the storyline. He doesn't seem to bring much to the soap and should be written out when the baby storyline ends.
