David Miller has been granted permission to participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, commencing on February 7, after successfully passing a fitness test this week. He sustained an adductor muscle strain while playing for the Paarl Royals in the recently concluded SA20 league. Miller is set to join his team on Sunday as they depart from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport to Mumbai.

Official Announcement from Cricket South Africa

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed via their official social media account that Miller has been medically cleared for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka next month. The announcement highlighted that he successfully completed the fitness test after his injury during the SA20 league.

Miller's Impressive T20 World Cup Record

Although Miller was rested during the ongoing T20 international series against the West Indies, he is now fully fit to compete in his sixth T20 World Cup. In the previous edition, he scored 196 runs at a strike rate of 148.48 across eight innings, including a half-century and a top score of 71*. As one of the leading run-scorers for South Africa in T20 internationals, Miller has amassed 2,630 runs in 133 matches, averaging 32.87 with a strike rate exceeding 140, featuring two centuries and eight fifties, with his highest score being 106*.

Miller's Role in the Team

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Miller, alongside Quinton de Kock, is among the most experienced batsmen in South Africa's T20 international squad. He is expected to bat at number five, following de Kock, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, and Dewald Brevis, taking on a finisher's role. The team also includes specialist batsmen Jason Smith and Tristan Stubbs. At 36, this could be Miller's final T20 World Cup, as he holds a contract with CSA solely for white-ball cricket and views the 2027 ODI World Cup, to be held on home soil, as his last tournament. Miller came close to leading South Africa to their first T20 World Cup title in 2024, but a stunning catch by Suryakumar Yadav in the final over dashed those hopes.
