Tehran: At least five people were killed and 14 others injured in two separate explosions in Iran on Saturday. The cause of both incidents is not yet known and investigations are ongoing.

According to the Iranian news channel Tehran Times, a powerful explosion rocked a residential building in the southwestern city of Ahvaz. The city’s fire department chief was quoted as saying that four people died on the spot. The explosion caused severe damage to the building and caused panic in the surrounding area.

The second incident occurred in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas. According to local officials, an explosion there killed one person and injured 14 others. The blast was so powerful that two floors of a building collapsed, several vehicles were damaged, and nearby shops were also severely damaged.

Following these incidents, security has been tightened in the region. Meanwhile, Israel has denied any involvement in the blasts. Two Israeli officials clarified that their country is not connected in any way to the explosions in Iran.

Various claims are being made on social media about the blasts, including that the naval commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was targeted. However, the semi-official news agency Tasnim has dismissed these claims as completely false.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, Director General of Crisis Management in Hormozgan Province, said investigations were underway to determine the exact cause of both explosions. He said the injured were taken to hospitals with the help of emergency services.
