It has been over 50 years since Monty Python and the Holy Grail first hit screens, but fans still can't get enough of the major hit. Many will be delighted to know that they can actually visit the castle where much of The Holy Grail was filmed - and it is as cheap as chips to get in.

Scotland's Doune Castle dates back to the 14th century and features a striking keep-gatehouse, with domestic quarters. It also offers the splendid Lord's Hall with its carved oak screen, musicians' gallery, and double fireplace. Visitors can also see the castle courtyard and cellar, including a display, which is accessible via a steep, cobbled tunnel. Looking out of the castle windows, guests are treated to stunning views of the River Teith and Ben Lomond from the battlements. What's even better is that tickets are free for kids up to the age of seven and start at as low as £6 for an older child's admission.

Concessionary tickets are just £8 while most adults only have to pay £10.

According to reports, the castle fully embraces that it is a tourist site for fans of the BBC sitcom. The Doune Castle gift shop is said to currently sell copies of the Holy Grail screenplay and coconut shells for fans looking to re-enact scenes from the film.

The castle's audio guide for visitors is narrated by Jones and Terry Gilliam, who co-directed The Holy Grail together.

In between anecdotes from the film, they offer a lesson on Doune's long history, featuring overnight stays by both Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie.

In 2005, The Guardian reported that around a third of the castle's visitors were Python fans, which inspired Historic Scotland to create a special "Monty Python Day" in Doune.

As well as being heavily featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Doune Castle was also used for the castle known as Winterfell in the pilot of the award winning TV series Game of Thrones as well as Castle Leoch in Outlander.
