Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Saturday announced her resignation from the party, launching a scathing attack on Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, whom she accused of “damaging” the organisation and described as “the most horrific, incapable, corrupt president ever”.
Kaur, who was suspended from the party’s primary membership last month, alleged that Warring had entered into an understanding with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab for petty political gains.
“Raja Warring, the most horrific, incapable, corrupt president ever. You saved yourself from jail by co-partnering with the chief minister to destroy Congress. You have sold the party for petty gains with an understanding with AAP,” Kaur alleged in a post on X.
She further accused the Punjab Congress chief of selectively targeting her while protecting senior leaders. "You had a suspension letter ready for me but what about nearly 12 senior Congress leaders who were busy in working with (Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh) MAJITHIA to harm NAVJOT. And you rewarded all of them with big posts for defeating NAVJOT," Kaur alleged in a post on X.
Kaur, the wife of former Punjab Congress chief and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, claimed she had evidence against Warring but chose not to pursue it. “I have enough proofs to destroy you, but I am not interested because I myself have quit Congress where no promising leader is heard,” she said.
The former MLA from Amritsar East also alleged that Warring had planted candidates in her constituency with the intention of ensuring her electoral defeat. She questioned the absence of action against senior leaders such as Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Dharamvira Gandhi, accusing them of openly defying the party leadership.
"You have just become a laughing stock and people are enjoying your reels. Stop disrespecting Congress leaders who love Navjot. You are more busy in destroying the party rather than making it win. Shame on you for not being sincere with your own party which is your mother party. You have done enough damage," she said.
Kaur had triggered a political controversy last month with her remark that “one who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore becomes the chief minister,” following which she was suspended by the Congress.
Speaking to reporters on December 6, she had said her husband would return to active politics if the Congress declared him its chief ministerial face in Punjab. She had also asserted that while they did not have money to give to any party, they could transform Punjab into a “golden state”.
After her suspension, Kaur had said she and her husband would continue to stand with the Congress.
"I am probably one of the very few who has not met any BJP or AAP or any other party leader for political reasons and neither has anyone in any party approached me. I am just wanting to serve the people of PUNJAB which I can do by forming an NGO and just work for evolution of my soul by understanding GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI preachings and be in the company of living evolved saints so that I can learn a little about selfless service and Soul evolution," she said.
Kaur also targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging rampant corruption under the AAP government. “Corruption is rampant in each department and maximum in your rule,” she claimed, accusing the chief minister of working with a “small team” and “bought media channels”.
Kaur was elected as an MLA from Amritsar East in 2012 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket and later joined the Congress.
