Budget 2026 Curd Sugar Ritual: Before presenting the Union Budget 2026, a very special and traditional scene was seen at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Draupadi Murmu sweetened the mouth of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her team and offered them curd and sugar. But do you know that this centuries-old tradition is not just a superstition but a perfect combination of science and Ayurveda.
Ahead of the formal start of the presentation of the General Budget on Sunday, President Draupadi Murmu hosted Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary and top officials of the ministry at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President fed the entire team with curd and sugar in the traditional manner and wished them good luck for the big responsibility. This ritual is not only a wish for success but is also considered a symbol of positive energy.
Budget and science of curd and sugar
Generally we consider it to be a recipe of the elderly women of the house but there is a solid scientific logic behind it. Presenting the Budget is an extremely stressful and lengthy process. Curd is rich in probiotics which keeps the digestive system healthy and prevents stomach problems caused by stress. Sugar is an immediate source of glucose which provides instant energy to the brain. This combination helps in increasing concentration and keeping fatigue away.
Benefits of curd and sugar
From Ayurvedic point of view, curd is a cooling agent and satvik food. It cools the body and keeps the mind stable. Together with sugar, it creates a balance that increases the levels of happy hormones such as serotonin and dopamine in the body. This keeps a person in a good mood and increases self-confidence, which is essential for an important day like the budget.
Cultural and spiritual significance
In Indian culture, white color and curd are considered a symbol of purity and peace. Whereas sweet is a sign of good results and sweetness. From the astrological point of view, curd is to the Moon and sugar is considered to be to Jupiter. The combination of these two makes the mind clear and capable of taking decisions.
Be it an exam, an interview or the country’s budget, this small omen of curd and sugar shows the depth of Indian culture where traditions and modern needs go together. This tradition is present in different corners of India in the form of curd-jaggery and in some places in the form of curd-sugar, but its basic meaning is the same – ‘May the new beginning be sweet and successful.’
