Novak Djokovic offered tennis legend Rafael Nadal the chance to take his place in the Australian Open final - in a brilliant moment caught on the TV cameras. The Serbian took on world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz at the Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park as he aimed for his 25th Grand Slam title. Alcaraz himself was aiming to become the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam, with history riding on the match.

The match was watched by Nadal and a clip has now emerged of Djokovic looking up towards the former Spanish player in between points and saying: "Wanna play, Rafa?" The offer was met with a laugh from Nadal.

Things started well for Djokovic, with him taking the first set 6-2. But Alcaraz fought back - claiming the second set 6-2, then taking the third 6-3.

The Spaniard completed the comeback to take the fourth set 7-5. The victory sees Alcaraz take the Australian Open title for the first time in his career and complete the set of Grand Slams.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated clash, Nadal revealed that he would be offering his support to his fellow countryman, despite coming up against Djokovic on the court on numerous occassions.

"If Novak wins, I will be happy for him, because in some ways it is spectacular what he's doing at this stage of his career," he said. So I will be happy. It will not be a drama for me. But if I have to support someone, I feel I have to support Carlos."

After picking up his runners up award, Djokovic acknowledged Nadal's presence in the arena. "I want to speak to the legendary Rafa who is in the stands," he said -prompting a huge cheer from the crowd and smile from Nadal.

"These are my last few words. It feels very weird to see you there in the crowd and not here playing on the court. It's been an honour to share a court with you here and have you watching. Thank you for being present. A couple of Spanish legends... So it was two against one tonight!"
