On the evening of January 30, a south Kolkata club pulsed with distortion, rhyme, memory and adrenaline as the Kolkata Coldwave Music Festival returned this year. Over 300 music lovers attended the fest, that turned out to be electric. Metal band Slok opened with their first full-length concert, riffs and pounding drums turning anticipation into headbanging catharsis, and then Aste Ladies stormed the stage, frontlined by Rialan and MC Disha alongside Cizzy. MC Disha of Aste Ladies said, “Last night, the spotlight was on female voices in Bangla hip-hop and it felt personal.” While Rialan, rapper from the same band added, “The show was proof of the hard work, planning, and belief it takes to create space for ourselves.” The fest was dedicated to drummers Rohit Nandi and Ritoban Das.
