A BBC Breakfast presenter has announced that she will be bidding farewell from the show as her co-star sent his well-wishes. Presenter Emma Vardy confirmed that she would be leaving the show to go on maternity leave as her co-star shared his well-wishes. On Sunday morning, they closed the episode with the exciting news as Emma said: "Right, well that's nearly it for us today. And my last show before mat leave! Bye!"

Roger Johnson responded: "Enjoy, good luck!" Though Emma's leave has been expected after she revealed back in October that she is pregnant with her second child. She hadn't revealed how far along she was, but told followers at the time: "We're welcoming a new addition! Thrilled and beyond excited."

She added: "Little Jago is going to become a brother, and we can't wait for the next chapter." Emma posted a reel on her Instagram on Saturday that confirmed she was days away from her due date, so her final show was to be expected.

Emma had been regularly sharing updates on her Instagram about running before admitting it was time to slow down, which coincided with her starting her maternity leave. The host wrote: "Finally accepted it. Running on pause for now! Due date a few days away, time to slow down a bit."

The news of Emma's departure comes days after the channel also lost another host with Carol Kirkwood announcing she was leaving the show permanently after 28 years.

She confirmed that her exit will come in April and said she has "loved every minute" of being at the BBC, adding: "This hasn't been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away. I'll carry with me the most wonderful memories."

Carol continued: "My job is something I've never taken for granted and I've loved every minute. From early starts and all manner of forecasts, I've shared it with incredible colleagues at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather and programmes across the BBC. I'd like to thank them for their support and friendship which has meant the world."

She concluded: "To those watching and listening at home - thank you for all the kindness you have shown me over the years, being part of your mornings has been a joy."
