New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took a historic step regarding the education and safety of girls in the Budget 2026-27 presented in the Lok Sabha on Sunday. The government has announced that a girls hostel will be built in every district of the country.
At present there are more than 700 districts in India, which means in the coming time about 700+ new girls hostels will be built. This decision is being considered a big step towards increasing girls’ higher education, security and equal opportunities in rural-urban areas.
Other major announcements of the budget ( to girl students and youth)
Big boost to veterinary colleges
Loan-based capital subsidy scheme for veterinary colleges, hospitals and diagnostic laboratories will be launched. This will improve veterinary education and services.
– Focus on AYUSH and traditional medicine
AYUSH pharmacies, drug testing labs and WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine located in Jamnagar (Gujarat) will be upgraded.
– Rapid growth in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities
Infrastructure development will continue in cities (Tier-2/3) with a population of more than 5 lakh. 7 high-speed rail corridors will be built for an environment-friendly passenger system. States will be assisted in setting up 5 regional hubs to make India a medical tourism hub.
– Strong economic goals
The debt-GDP ratio is estimated to be 55.6% in 2026-27. Proposal to increase public capital expenditure (Capex) to Rs 12.2 lakh crore.
This big announcement on girls’ education in the budget has become a topic of discussion in the entire country. Experts believe that girls hostels will reduce the dropout rate of girls in rural areas and increase access to higher education.
