Premier League make Arsenal announcement after Leeds win as official update released

Noni Madueke has been awarded a goal in Arsenal's 4-0 win over Leeds United, the Premier League have confirmed. The Gunners winger has been credited with the game's second strike, which had previously been labelled as an own goal from Karl Darlow.

Madueke crossed the ball from a corner in the 38th minuteand watched on as Darlow punched the ball off his team-mate James Justin and into the net. The former Chelsea and PSV Eindhoven star's left-footed inswinging effort has now been judged as already being on target, and as a result, Madueke is able to claim the glory for his first Premier League goal of the season.

Premier League Match Centre said in their announcement: "The goal accreditation panel has adjudged Arsenal’s 38th minute goal as a Madueke goal."

Madueke had already been celebrated by his team-mates as William Saliba, Piero Hincapie and Kai Havertz quickly surrounded him. The England international's effort added to Martin Zubimendi's goal before Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus capped off a fine victory for Mikel Arteta's men.

Madueke was not initially expected to be on the pitch and was rushed into the starting lineup minutes before kick-off after Bukayo Saka picked up an injury while warming up. The 23-year-old was unphazed.

"We're professional so we are prepared," he said after the gam. "Happy that we got the win. I appreciate the supporters, it means a lot that they come so far from home. We heard them the whole 90 minutes, they were top today.

"We have been fighting on all four fronts since the start of the season. It goes without saying that everyone is ready when called upon. Every few days you have to be ready to perform. It is about staying locked in and in the zone."

Arsenal boss Arteta waspleased that Madueke was prepared for the unexpected. The Spaniard as full of praise for the winger.

“We keep telling them to be ready because the most unexpected moments are going to be thrown in the battle, and it happened in the warm-up,” he said. “[Noni] was certainly ready. The way he prepares every day is fantastic, and he made a difference for the team.

“You talk about the strikers and their goals, but the work rate and the strength that they showed today, again both the starters and the finishers.

"When you talk about that combination, how we share the minutes and the impact that each player can have in his role, I think it was the perfect example today.”
